When we think of a king, we are inclined to think of absolute control. But when God allowed a king for Israel, he had in mind one whose heart was ruled by God. Throughout history, the kings of Israel forgot the Lord and it showed in the way they ruled. Jesus also serves as a king, but unlike the kings of Israel, he is a king whose will is perfectly in line with God's. This leads him to reign as the ultimate servant.
