Some like to imagine God as one who doesn’t really care about sin. Others like to imagine him as someone who wants nothing to do with sinners. God’s Word from Isaiah debunks both of those theories. God is holy and just. Sinners cannot exist before him. At the same time, he is the one who promises to redeem and forgive sinners. So, as we prepare for the coming of our Savior, Jesus, we prepare by acknowledging our sin and trusting God’s mercy.
