It is important to count the cost when it comes to all sorts of things in life: How much is that house really going to cost? How much is that hobby actually going to cost? This is even more important when it comes to following Jesus. He is honest with us that following him is going to put us in situations where love for him will conflict with other things we love. Yet the decision of what to love more becomes clear when we see all that we gain through Jesus.
